"Come out in the daylight now, find your footing without looking over your shoulder, holding your breath, or putting your head down. I believe you."

Sign of the Ribbons—is a poetic writing that breaks the all too pervasive silence about violence against women. It offers friendship, sanctuary and healing words to the woman who has been harmed. It provides a pathway for other people to support and be a friend to the woman who has been abused and it calls for everyone to stand up and say, "No more. Violence against women must come to an end."

Each of the 36 pages has a cloth that has been cut in some way representing one woman who has been abused, a silk ribbon for the beauty that is still hers, a black ribbon for sorrow, a spider-like stitching signifying that in this place abuse happened, a grosgrain ribbon for love, and thin shiny ribbons, flying loose, to let anyone know that here is a safe place and a safe person with whom to be.
